Learning

Matthias has taught extensively, both in the UK and internationally, sharing his practice with a wide range of people spanning those participating in dance for the first time to students in higher education and professional dance artists.

He offers opportunities for participation, study and professional development ranging from one-off workshops to large-scale performance projects. Grounded in the approaches he uses in his own work, he focuses on engaging participants’ individual creativity in making, performing and thinking about dance and choreography in fresh and challenging ways.

His past experience includes guest teaching for institutions including Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music & Dance, English National Ballet School and Dance4’s Centre for Advanced Training; leading professional classes and workshops for organisations including Independent Dance, Greenwich Dance Agency and The Place Artist Development; and creating large-scale participatory performances inlcuding old²/new², a Creative Partnerships Nottingham commission, and PLAY> commissioned by Dance East.

For Big Dance 2012, he has been commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance to create a new work that will bring together 50 South London-based performers of wide-ranging levels of experience in an installation performance at Siobhan Davies Studios.
